Kranj
For thousands of years the town of Kranj has enjoyed its strategic position. Located between two rivers on a conglomerate rock beneath the Alps, it has always been a lively centre where diverse ethnic groups would meet and later also people of various nations from all over the world. These encounters have influenced the architecture, the transport links and the temperament of Kranj. This is why Kranj is today still the capital of the Gorenjska region and the starting point for discovering all of it.

Bohinj
Bohinj is a paradise valley embraced by the Julian Alps. Lake Bohinj that lies in the heart of the Triglav National Park, one of the oldest national parks in Europe, is the largest Slovenian natural lake, nested at the foot of unspoilt mountains and mountain tops. Lake Bohinj is perfect for water activities all year round – from swimming, boat riding, wind surfing, kayaking or canoeing, fishing and diving in warmer months, to (sometimes) even ice skating in winter.

Kranjska Gora
A world-class ski centre nestled in the Julian Alps at the triple border point of Slovenia, Italy and Austria. In the winter it sees Alpine skiers compete and top ski jumpers break new records at the near-by Planica. Cyclists endeavour to conquer the highest Slovenian mountain pass, and hikers can stop by many points of interest.

The Vintgar Gorge
Vintgar Gorge, carved by Radovna River, is located near Gorje, approximately 4 kilometres north-west from Bled. The 1.6-kilometre long gorge is carved amidst the glorious vertical walls of Hom and Boršt hills, and it is highlighted by the Radovna River and its waterfalls, pools and rapids. A study trail runs across the gorge and the wooden bridges as well as Žumer galleries, which ends with the mighty 13 metres high Šum river waterfall, one of the three river waterfalls in Slovenia. Vintgar Gorge is the nearest point to entering Triglav National Park from Bled

Bled Island
Island that fulfils wishes. Take a trip in the traditional pletna boat to Bled Island and climb up the 99 steps to the Church of the Mother of God on the lake. Take a deep breath, close your eyes, make a wish and ring the wishing bell. Have a look at the lake and its surroundings from the 52 m high bell tower.

The Church of the Mother of God
The most recognisable symbol of the island is the Church of the Mother of God on the lake with a long and diverse history. After Christianisation in 745, the ancient Slavic temple was replaced by a church, dedicated to the birth of Mary. The church was renovated in 1465 and rebuilt in single nave Gothic style. The special feature of the church was 52 metres high free standing bell tower, made of porous stone, called buckwheat grains. The panoramic bell tower has one large and two small bells that still resound today. The church got its current baroque image in the middle of the 17th century; the chapel of the Mother of God was also built on the island to motivate people to pray.
